      Grado and Marano Lagoon

The lagoon of Marano, enclosed in the last round the coast of Lignano Sabbiadoro and the lagoon of Grado, is an area of outstanding natural beauty which is home to a unique fauna and flora and of great natural value. Protected from the open sea by a string of islands and islets, like those of Sant’Andrea and Martignano, also known as the island of shells, it is characterized by marsh vegetation. They are ideal for boats without driving licence. There are also temporary settlements of fishermen, the typical “casoni”; buildings made of reeds and wood, which make the Marano lagoon one of the most interesting places of the Adriatic Sea.

The regional natural reserve of Foci dello Stella is in the Marano lagoon and is reachable through the delta of the river Stella, which can go up to Precenicco and Palazzolo. When you walk into the extreme mouth you see a rare beauty: a village of fishermen’s huts. All casoni are placed towards West, so that they become more sheltered from the winds of bora and tramontana. Visit with your houseboat unique places and enjoy your cruise!
